STX Celebrates Black History Month with AG Loretta Lynch

Former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch spoke to a packed audience in the Great Hall on University of the Virgin Islands’ St. Croix campus last week for the Student Convocation Program. Lynch told the students of her journey and likened it to the journey they will face.

Lynch was the first African American female Attorney General of the United States, nominated by President Barack Obama. UVI President David Hall and board vice chair Oron Roebuck awarded Lynch an honorary degree. Special thanks were given to Chief U.S. District Judge Wilma Lewis for arranging the convocation program. Grant of $350,000 to Fund Mental Health for Children

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (RWJF) has given a $350,000 grant to The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) to be used to fund a 15-month continuation project to provide mental health services for students and training for professionals in USVI public schools. The CFVI is partnering with local nonprofit organization Beautiful Dreamers to operate a school-based mental health support program during calendar year 2020.
