St Croix Airport and Seaplane Terminal Expansion

St Croix Airport and Seaplane Terminal Expansion

The Port Authority plans to move forward in expanding the St. Croix airport and Svend Ovesen Seaplane Terminal on St. Croix according to the St. Croix Source. The upgrades to hangars and runways will help open up the tourism market by attracting longer haul flights such as ones from Europe to the airport. A larger hangar building will be able to accommodate larger aircraft once completed. A new loading ramp and a facelift at the seaplane terminal will improve the deplaning and boarding area. The renovations will enable runway expansion, double the capacity of the pre-clearance hold room, provide retail concessions, food and other amenities such as portable device charging stations. The airport’s new design will also be able to accommodate five jets on the ground at any time and is expected to be completed by February 2022.

Traveling Foodie Blogger Recommends Best Places To Eat & Drink in St Croix

Traveling Foodie Blogger Recommends Best Places To Eat & Drink in St Croix

We are delighted to see The Traveling Foodie blog article that reflects on their food adventure in St Croix, USVI from a year ago. Although many of the Crucian festivals and events have been reimagined due to temporary restrictions right now, we couldn’t agree more about the writer’s fondness of the St. Croix’s vibrant culinary scene. Just a year ago we shared our experience at AgriFest, a 4 day exhibition known for its colorful display of locally produced agricultural products, livestock, arts and crafts and native cuisine. As St Croix residents, we enjoy the diversity of food and the bursting of flavors in our island’s restaurants, food trucks, and noted food spots. We hope foodies near and far will be inspired and put St. Croix on their list of places to visit!

The Traveling Foodie’s account of the 7 best places to eat and drink in St Croix can be found here and a companion video below.

Selling: Will people be able to see our listing with the travel restrictions?

Selling: Will people be able to see our listing with the travel restrictions?

From our January 2021 St Croix Newsletter

Question: “I’m thinking of listing my property, but I’m afraid that people won’t be able to come to see it because of travel restrictions.”

Christie’s Answer:

To assist potential Buyers and create interest in the property you are selling, we produce a thorough and descriptive listing. With great photos, videos, drone photography and a 3D self-guided tour of your property, prospective Buyers will come as close as possible to being there in person. At one recent showing, a Buyer said that he had looked at everything on our sale listing, and felt that he knew the property as well as if he’d walked through it already!

The sale listing of your property will also include any important documents, such as surveys, floor plans and plot maps. The more information about your listing we can provide potential Buyers, the more qualified Buyers we will attract!

Buying Property in St Croix When You Can’t Travel

Buying Property in St Croix When You Can’t Travel

From our January 2021 St Croix Newsletter

Question: “I’m interested in buying property on St. Croix, but it’s difficult for me to travel right now. How can you help me?”

Chris’ Answer:

This is no problem. We have sold properties to people sight unseen! We can go to the property and take photos of anything you would like to see more closely than the photos in MLS or Zillow listing. A walk through video or a Face Time call can give you a better idea of the layout, and help answer any questions. We can also do photos of the neighborhood, or a video of the drive to the house so that you can better imagine what it would be like to live there.

We close with attorneys in the U. S. Virgin Islands. It is not uncommon for buyers and sellers to not be on island for the closing. All of the paperwork can be handled remotely. Some documents can be signed electronically, some, like mortgage documents (which require physical signatures) via overnight mail and some can be handled on your behalf by your attorney using a limited Power of Attorney. Sometimes the first time new home owners actually see their new home in person is when we take them to it and hand them the keys!

UVI Scientist Transforms Glass Waste into a Recycling Project

UVI Scientist Transforms Glass Waste into a Recycling Project

St Croix will soon have a way to recycle glass that can be used for sandbags and other applications! University of the Virgin Islands Marine Scientist Howard Forbes Jr. spearheaded a new project that recycles glass bottles into sandbags for hurricane season. This effort will help divert glass waste away from the landfill and beaches and be able to use it in a number of different applications including sandbags, water and septic filtration, as an aggregate for concrete and asphalt, landfill cover material, and more. Dr. Forbes purchased five glass crushers that will be distributed to community partners on St. Thomas with a $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands. Two more will be purchased for St. Croix with additional funding from the Ocean Conservancy.

Caribbean Journal Names USVI Destination of the Year

Caribbean Journal Names USVI Destination of the Year

The US Virgin Islands was named Destination of the Year by Caribbean Journal. The journal announced its 7th annual edition of our Caribbean Travel Awards across 20 different categories and we are so happy to see that beautiful US Virgin Islands recognized.

The publication calls USVI “a model for tourism reopenings around the region — highlighting what was, before the pandemic, an increasingly hot tri-island destination its own right, from the launch of a new tourism brand for St Croix early in the year to a rekindled hotel development movement.”
